Blog Post #1- January 31st, 2011 "The Orange Bazaar"

Are you tired of buying textbooks that are too expensive but are afraid that if you order them from another source you won't get exactly what you wanted?
What about if you have season tickets to the 2011 basketball season but can't make it to one game?
Or what if you are stuck with a micro-fridge from your freshman dorm that you cannot seem to get rid of? Or even a Syracuse t-shit that just doesn't fit anymore?

You should head over to www.orangebazaar.com, Syracuse's very own eBay! A website where you can interact with students, buy, sell, or even barter anything Syracuse University-related! College students are well known for not being the richest of people, so this website will be created for Syracuse University students to buy, sell, and trade necessary products needed for the college experience and lifestyle. Most college students have no use for their textbooks after they have finished taking the class, so instead of incoming students buying expensive textbooks from the bookstore, or taking the chance of ordering a book from another website, students can buy textbooks from other students and have full confidence that the textbook they are purchasing is the right one. Another feature that the website would have is the opportunity to buy and sell any sports tickets for the Carrier Dome. Most students buy season tickets in the student section for football and basketball games. However, not every student can make it to every game. So instead of wasting a ticket and giving up a seat, Syracuse University students have the opportunity to sell their ticket to other students, thus not wasting an extra ticket and an opportunity for another student to attend a football or basketball game. These are just two examples of the many products students could buy and sell. Some other options are clothes, athletic equipment, small appliances, computers, and printers. In addition to products, services could also be provided on the website, such as tutoring, transportation, room cleaning, and laundry.

  1. This is a great way to alter an existing business service so that it meets the needs of a select group of consumers. I think students would be very willing to utilize this site!

  2. I really like this idea, because I understand how frustrating it can be to buy products such as textbooks off the internet for classes, because you never really know that you are getting the right thing, or how reliable the seller is. I also am really intrigued by your idea of selling game day tickets. As a season ticket holder, who can in no way make it to every home game, specifically with basketball, it would be nice to be able to get some money out of the tickets I bought so that they don't go to waste. However, how will you get Syracuse to allow the selling of tickets to happen? And also how will they receive the student tickets, since there is no actual ticket, it is just a swipe of the SUID?

  3. I think this is a great idea and it sounds very feasible! The website would be useful for many SU students to buy cheaper textbooks and know for sure that they are buying what they need. I also think selling tickets is another great idea because some lucky person could buy the ticket at a low price to go to a game that they have always wanted to go. This idea would appeal to many SU students.

  5. I think this is a great idea. I've never really seen or heard anything like this at Syracuse or even at any other college. I also like the game-day idea. Students would be able to buy tickets cheaper than they normally would be able to on different websites. I think this would be a very successful idea and would be a hit all around campus!

  6. I think this would be awesome! like a secure craigs list for SU. I really like how you included the tickets in your plan. And it would make buying and selling textbooks a lot less frustrating.
